While the articles and editorial content are the same as southern states, some of the pictorial photos may have changed by restricting pubic hair display and any hint of vagina images. In the 1980s, Queensland was under the socially conservative government of Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Censorship was aggressively enforced across literature, education, union activities, and civil liberties, largely shaped by the Premier’s fundamentalist Christian beliefs and close ties to advocacy groups like STOP (Society to Outlaw Pornography). The Queensland Literature Board of Review actively banned books, magazines (such as Playboy), and comics deemed indecent or repugnant. As a result, Australian Playboy for Queensland were changed to be noticeably tamer than copies sold in other states.
